Towards A Better Community

We all know that this past few years, Philippines has been experiencing challenges and problems. Just like the natural calamities, which is normal because every year we experienced some of it. Natural calamities include flash floods, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, and other geological processes. These calamities caused millions of destruction of properties and establishments and also deaths of many people. But when 2020 came, there’s even bigger challenges and problems that we have to face. Way back January 12, 2020, Taal Volcano erupted after how many years.. taal Volcano is located at the province of Batangas and it is the second-most active volcano here in our country. The Taal Volcano eruption has caused death of 39 people and 199 people injured. The seven barangays that existed on the island previous to the eruption were completely wiped out. Number of villages were also destroyed. Crops suffered from deposit of ashes. Because of the black ash from the volcano, survivors needed face mask to cover their nose, to avoid inhaling the black ash. Later on, on the 30th of January, same year, 2020, the Department of Health reported the first ever case of COVID-19. It is said that the first case was a 38 year-old female, Chinese national. After a month, another Chinese national man turned out positive for the virus. On March 7, the Philippines confirmed its first local transmission. Since then, the virus has spread. To limit the spread of virus, Government Officials implemented lockdowns or community quarantines, mandatory wearing of face shield and face mask, and always washing hands throughout the country since March 15.

So what do we people need to do in times of this challenges? In what ways can we help? We need to be resilient. Resiliency is the ability to withstand adversity and bounce back from difficult life events. Resilience is important because it gives people the strength needed to process and overcome hardship. And unity is the state of different areas or groups being joined together to form a single country or organization. Unity is needed for survival. Unity protects us from all the evil doings, hence we people should help each other and together we should fight and face the negative things. Government officials has done their jobs, they have been implemented the rules, and for us people to be able to help, it is our responsibility to follow these rules. We must be at one to fight and to overcome this problem.

In every problems and challenges we face, we must be resilient and we need to add it with unity. We must be united, we must be resilient, because we only have the same goal. And there goes the saying “Strength is always with unity”. With these, we can make a better community.
